Schumann Concert sans Orchestre: Gabriele Carcano

April 30, 2024 6:30 PM

Schumann’s third sonata, baptised “concert sans orchestre” by his contemporary Tobias Haslinger, shows how the piano was progressively becoming too restrictive for the composer’s creative genius. Rarely played these days, among the great works that Schumann produced, it has always lacked a champion in the twentieth century.

Gabriele Carcano is a favourite artist at the Fidelio Cafe and continues to captivate audiences since its Beethoven Sonatas full cycle, the boldest long term project the venue has ever hosted.
