Quartet for The End of Time (SOLD OUT)

June 20, 2023 6:30 PM

One hour concert followed by three-course dinner. Doors open at 6:00, concert starts at 6:30pm.

The intensity of Messiaen’s most celebrated chamber work lends itself to the most varied set of circumstances. Composed in the Görlitz, where the composer was being held prisoner by the Nazis along with other fellow musicians, the piece was premiered in front of several hundred prisoners and since then it has acquired a sort of legendary aura. Its scoring is unconventional both in the number of movements (eight) and the use of instruments which are rarely seen together as a quartet in the literature. A previous performance of this piece by the quartet of musicians coming together for this concert has had a wonderful review in the Observer.
