Heiliger Dankgesang: Barbican quartet

February 20, 2024 6:30 PM

Winner of the ARD competition in Munich in 2022, the Barbican Quartet is one of today’s top formation in the string quartet world. For their first appearance at the Fidelio Cafe they choose to put the two viennese schools next to each other. Beethoven’s futuristic A minor string quartet, whose beautiful slow movement harks to the hymns of a distant past, is paired with Alban Berg’s only string quartet, a work that continues to ask the same question Beethoven seems to have racked his brain with: where can music go from here?

Programme:

A. Berg String quartet
L. van Beethoven String quartet in A minor Op. 132

Barbican Quartet
