Beethoven’s last string quartet: Eusebius quartet

March 19, 2024 6:30 PM

Beethoven’s last string quartet has been celebrated in Milan Kundera’s literary masterpiece The Unbearable Lightness of being and, other than being one of his last finished works, it speaks of Beethoven’s never ending desire to dominate fate through the artist’s will. Korngold’s second string quartet on the other hand speaks to a world on the verge of succumbing to fate. Written in the early 1930’s the work anticipate the style that will earn the Austrian composer much fame in Hollywood some ten years later.
