Full of invention, wit and eccentricities – quintessentially baroque – the Trio Sonatas of Buxtehude and ‘Paris’ Quartets of Telemann are also foundational works of chamber music, standing at the threshold of the genre’s Classical era ‘golden age’. Jonathan Cohen, Sophie Gent, Thomas Dunford and Jonathan Manson have already recorded two critically-acclaimed albums of Buxtehude’s chamber music, and are joined for this programme by flautist Georgia Browne. This is the only London performance of this programme ahead of recording sessions for Alpha Classics of a third and final Buxtehude volume, and the first appearance by this GRAMMY-nominated ensemble at Fidelio Café.
