Angelo Villani: Transcriptions

October 12, 2022 6:30 PM

Who needs an orchestra when you have Angelo Villani – Sean Rafferty

Villani’s eclectic transcriptions on the album are kaleidoscopic in range, drawing on a huge array of inspirations such as his arrangement of Mozart’s Lacrymosa from the Requiem, evoking the gothic atmosphere of Maria Yudina’s 1954 rendition. Villani gives all the transcriptions a personal touch, talking advantage of the piano’s ability to act as a solo and accompanying instrument, creating symphonic effects likened to an orchestra.
