One hour concert followed by three-course dinner. Doors open at 6:00, concert starts at 6:30pm.
Four of the greatest interpreters today in one single night is a rarity worth celebrating. Beethoven was already in full late style swing when he worked on his last two cello sonatas and the one part of this concert ends with one of his terrifying fugues, a classical form also very dear to Shostakovich. It is the Passacaglia though, another established musica form from the past, which Shostakovich uses in the last movement of his violin sonata, a testament to the relevance of these ancient forms well into the twentieth century.
